Hanover needed to recruit to two senior property roles – these were traditionally hard roles to fill, and generally paid high salaries which Hanover could not compete with. During the brief, it became clear that applicants were likely to come from another sector – in which case, they would have to be persuaded that Older People’s Housing was a more exciting and dynamic environment than they might have imagined. As a result, we came up with the concept Tales of the Unexpected. Using minimal text to maximise impact, the advert ran in the property press and directed people to a bespoke adsite. The total cost was well below 10% of total salary, and the response was excellent – both roles had impressive shortlists and successful appointments from the commercial sector.
